The argon laser
The Argonlaser with its blue-green light (wavelength 488/514nm) was invented in 1964 and has been used for dermatologic purposes since 1975 here in Germany.
Due to its enhanced absorption in hemoglobin (the red hue in blood) its primary use is that of coagulation of blood vessels in the skin. Unfortunately, inherent in this mode of action is also the development of fine superficial scars.; thus the argonlaser is no longer routinely used for the treatment of vascular lesions in the skin, but is employed for individual indications only.
